Frequently Asked Questions
How many people will be on the training program with me?
We allow a maximum number of 12 people
per trip. This allows us to dedicate as much time as possible
to the individual.
How much free time will I have?
We have designed our program so that
you will have plenty of recreation time to do your own thing.
You will train 5 hours a day and have every fourth day scheduled
free.
Do I have to share a room?
Your accommodation is in spacious 4
bedroom apartments in 4 Star Resort Style accommodation.
Each lifeguard will have their own bedroom with ensuite.
Do you allow smoking on the training?
All accommodation, bedrooms, transport
and shared eating areas provided by us are all smoke-free
environments.
Do I need to travel with a companion?
If travelling alone don’t worry
many of our lifeguards do, but all share a common interest
in lifesaving and fitness so friendships are quickly made.
What happens if I am travelling with my partner?
'Partners/spouses are welcome to stay
with you in the accommodation and to observe your training
progress on the beach. Special extra person rates including
accommodation, breakfast, and some bus transfers are available
upon request'
What sort of people will I meet?
People join us from all walks of life
and from all parts of the world. They range in age, and a
large number are solo travellers along with couples and friends
travelling together. Some are more experienced than others,
but all share a common interest in lifesaving.
Are the programs physically demanding?
Our training program is designed for
people both new and experienced to the sport of lifesaving.
You will need to have an average level of fitness to ensure
you cope with the level of training. If you are new to lifesaving
and unsure of your abilities please discuss with us so we
may accommodate your personal needs.
Is there any age limit?
Our training is open to all ages over
18 who are fit and healthy. If you are under 18 and over the
age of 16 you are welcome to join us if you have a parent
or legal guardian travelling with you.

The Australian Surf Lifeguard academy
appeals to both current and aspirational surf lifesavers from
all over the world. You are likely to meet people from other
nationalities and cultures and form life-long friendships
through your common interest and bond of Surf Life Saving.
Do I need to speak English?
Basic spoken and written English will
be necessary to allow us to communicate effectively with you.
For non-English speaking nationalities a beginner’s
English course may be provided by us. If intending to book
in a large group it is suggested you bring an interpreter
with you who we are happy to provide accommodation for at
no expense, please advise us at the time of booking.
How do we travel?
Most transport provided will be in
a modern air-conditioned bus.
How much luggage can I bring?

are in place on airlines so check prior to departure as to
your limit. Luggage is carried at the owner's own risk and
luggage insurance is strongly recommended.
What does the tour cost include?
Your trip cost includes accommodation,
breakfast and morning tea, transport & driver for training
purposes, training instructors and all costs of training,
motivational guest speakers, lifeguard pack, surf club membership,
entrance to pool and gym.
How much spending money do I need?
Traveller’s checks in small denominations
(in a main currency) are the safest way to carry your personal
spending money. In Australia access through ATM’s displaying
the logo’s is a convenient way to withdraw funds from
your home country, check with your bank prior to departure.
Remember that you'll need to allow enough money to cover lunches
and dinners, shopping, entrance fees to attractions and activities,
souvenirs, drinks and evening entertainment/nightclubs. A
full list of local attractions and approximate costs will
be sent to you with your travel documents.
Do I need travel insurance, and if so, what should it cover?
Yes, it is compulsory that you have
travel insurance for your trip. Please contact your travel
agent to arrange. Your insurance policy should cover cancellation
curtailment, loss of or damage to baggage, loss of money (cash),
traveller’s cheques, or personal belongings and medical
insurance.
Do I need a passport and travel visa?
Depending on your nationality, you
may need visas to enter Australia. You are responsible for
obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your
trip. Consult your travel agent well in advance to determine
which visas you will require and how to obtain them. Important:
visas can take up to six weeks to obtain and a fee is normally
charged. Failure to obtain all necessary visas could cause
you to miss your trip and will result in considerable expense
and inconvenience. It is better to apply for ALL visas through
your travel agent before you leave home.
Do I need any vaccinations?
Please consult your travel agent or
doctor to find out which vaccinations are required. If you
suffer from any form of illness, be sure to have an adequate
supply of medicines before departing on your trip. You must
advise us of any important medical condition you may have,
before departure.
What should I expect to receive from the Australia Surf
Lifeguard Academy after I book my trip?
After final payment is received, we
will send you the following items two to three weeks prior
to departure: itinerary, list of local attractions, traveller’s
information booklet.
